1800p is a native resolution of 3200x1800 while 900p is 1600x900 which is one fourth of 1800p. Afterwards it uses a regular upscaling method to go to 2160p.ĩ00p is not half of 1800p.

Combines the current and previous frames with some trickery to a full 1800p frame. When it's rendering at 1800p using checkerboard it's doing just that, rendering half the pixels of a full 1800p frame every frame and then alternating which pixels. To expound uopn that a bit, I am under the impression that 1800p could checkerboard to 2160p and see less artifacting from creating the missing data over a 1080/2160p solution. What you're saying though is that KF2 runs at 900p, then checkerboards to 1800p instead? I didn't think it was required that checkerboarding always doubled the original resolution. "Killing Floor 2 is 1800p with checkerboard rendering, right? Based upon what I'd read, I assumed that meant it rendered at 1800p, and checkerboarded to 2160p. Might do a slightly higher native resolution than 1440p tho, but afterwards both do a traditional upscale to 2160p. And no, don't mention MS's sparse rendering since that is as difficult to add in afterwards in a game engine as is checkerboard rendering since it's basically the same thing.

Scorpio is powerful, but not THAT powerful. This is also going to be typical for Scorpio support for the same games and no it won't be native 4k on it since that would mean it should be able to render 2.25 times the amount of pixels as the Pro does to achieve 1440p. This is typical for PS4 Pro support for a game where development started after they knew about the PS4 pro.

My point is: there is no starting resolutionĪlso, checkerboard rendering at 1440p means it has to render a little less amount of pixels than native 1080p which would be silly on the Pro. With checkerboard rendering it targets a resolution and then renders half of those pixels each frame, alternating in a checkerboard pattern which pixels are rendered, then it combines the current and previous frame with all kinds of tricks. Even if you want to call it upscaling fact remains that it can't be arbitrarily used on a native frame size. Checkerboard rendering is not an upscaling method, it's a rendering method to get higher resolution results. "I guess you were right! I assumed it would be 1440p WITH checkerboard upscale to 4K,"īut that's the thing, that is not something that is possible.
